Sorry for the delay in posting and responding to the sweet comments that have come in. Our computer suffered something along the lines of adrenal burnout. I’m plugged in again now so here goes…
Desperate times call for desperate measures and this is one of those times. I’ve been coasting along, trying to keep in the middle, avoiding feeling super good or super bad. This is crucial for me. Balance. Because when I’m off-balance, stress comes sneaking in and likes to pull out the chair from under me when I’m not looking. Recently, I got a little emotionally off-balance. Then I tried to compensate for that by having these crazy, fantastic adventures, which only resulted in my body paying the price. Therefore, I found myself on the knife-edge precipice of the physical, emotional and mental black hole that is adrenal fatigue. Who was with me standing on that precipice? Oh yes, my dear old friend Fear. Fear likes to whisper in my ear stories about what COULD happen IF I don’t find a way off from the precipice. Like how bad I could feel again if I fall into that black hole. And the more I let Fear tell me its tales, the shakier my footing gets. So before I allow those made-up stories to become reality, I realize that I must fend off Fear and its cohort Stress, the sneaky kidnapper who has plucked me from my peaceful balance and is holding me captive. Therefore, Operation Zen Thyroid Rescue & Recovery was enacted (and just in time!).
This high-level operation requires planning. I plan what will be part of the operation, as well as what will not. This level of awareness is very important for me because it is in the awareness that I will be able to observe the stress and LET IT GO. I know that stress is quick and stealth – it creeps in the backdoor when I’m not looking. I also know that stress is the most damaging poison to my thyroid. The simple awareness of the stress is my most powerful tool in battling it. What will be involved in this operation? Well, obviously I make a list because the memory…thyroid brain…enough said. This list will keep me focused on my intention of recovering balance. These simple practices will make this process of taking a day (or more if possible) of rest as smooth as possible.
The most important part of the operation is to be fully committed to the healing process. That means there is nothing more important. I think it is best to let the people in my life know that I am taking this time for me. This is pretty easy for me because it generally means just my husband, who points out to me that I need this in the first place. If I have any other responsibilities/plans/errands/etc., I have to not do those. There is nothing more important right now than my health and my hope is that this does not affect anyone else in any way other than positive. But if it does….it’s hard but that’s the way it is right now. So I really feel that is important – letting others know.
Guidelines for Operation Zen Thyroid Rescue & Recovery
*True, real, present, intentional REST
*I will only involve myself in situations, thoughts and practices that fill me with peace, joy or calm.
*Maintaining an acute awareness of my intention to feel better
*Treat myself to as much compassion as I want my loved ones to feel
*Avoid all potential triggers of unhappiness, such as allowing negative thoughts to overstay their welcome and taking my vitals.
*Go “dark” if necessary. What is this? No phone, no computer, no news, no communication with the world outside of my sanctuary. No apologies. No regrets.
Activities for Operation Zen Thyroid Rescue & Recovery
*Take two shorter walks instead of one big hike. SUNSET!
*Meditate. The single most important part of this process and a huge part of my everyday life. I have meditated for years and this practice was the driving force to pull me out of adrenal fatigue. I meditate on my own, as well as using guided meditations (especially before bed). One guided meditation website that I highly recommend is Meditation Oasis. They offer free meditations that you can download on iTunes. The lovely Dominee at Blessing Manifesting offers this great post on guided meditation, along with an example.
*Yoga. This is a very important part of my life. I do yoga at home – this is the way I have preferred doing it for years. My favorite website for yoga classes is Yoga Today. They offer subscriptions as well as a free class each week.
*Work on the Creative Goddess course I am taking from the amazing Leonie at Goddess Guidebook. I can’t say enough about this website and the beautiful women who are part of this circle.
*Plant things and get my hands dirty in soil.
*Read. I am currently reading You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay. Louise Hay totally rocks. Words cannot express how transformative this book has been for me so far.
*Spend time in the kitchen creating a new recipe. I am in
desperate need of more protein.
*Learn to play “Soulshine” by Warren Haynes on the guitar. Great song.
*Breathe. Consciously and fully. Often.
So that is the plan for Operation Zen Thyroid Rescue & Recovery. Whether I do all the activities or only one, I will make sure that I rest deeply and immerse myself only in things that make me feel GOOD. This is all about moving away from stress and back into balance.
